Rockstar releases GTA VI Trailer 2 and expands the official site

Rockstar dropped GTA VI Trailer 2 unannounced and added Jason and Lucia's backstories, six new characters, the regions of Leonida and 70-plus screenshots.

Rockstar Games put out the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI on May 6, 2025, without announcing it first. The video went up on the Rockstar Newswire and the game's official site, and the site itself grew the same day, with backstories for both leads, six supporting characters, the regions of Leonida and a large set of new screenshots.

Why the timing stood out

The trailer landed four days after Rockstar pushed the game from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026 (our report). Kotaku noted that it appeared with no advance warning, well over a year after the first trailer. That first trailer had arrived on December 4, 2023, according to Rockstar's own video listings.

The May 2026 date later slipped as well: Take-Two's November 2025 results gave the new date of November 19, 2026, which still stands.

The trailer

Rockstar's official synopsis opens with one line that sets the tone: "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them." From there it outlines the premise. A job that should have been easy goes bad, and the pair end up caught in a criminal conspiracy that runs across the whole state, needing each other to get out.

The music is "Hot Together" by The Pointer Sisters, VGC reported. Kotaku's Zack Zwiezen focused on how much screen time goes to the relationship itself, pointing to quieter moments at home alongside the usual chases and crime.

A day later, Rockstar added a note about the footage on X. It said every shot had been captured in the game itself, running on a PlayStation 5, and that the trailer was "equal parts gameplay and cutscenes," as VGC reported. Rockstar did not say whether that meant a standard PS5 or a PS5 Pro.

Jason and Lucia, in full

The site update gave the two leads' full names, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, as PlayStation LifeStyle listed them. Their profiles, summarized by VGC, sketch two people with rough starts:

  • Jason was raised among small-time hustlers, spent some time in the Army, and later found work with drug runners down in the Keys.
  • Lucia learned to fight from her father, has done time in Leonida Penitentiary, and wants the good life her mother has dreamed about ever since their Liberty City days.

New faces and places

Six supporting characters got their own introductions. In alphabetical order, they are Boobie Ike, Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Dre'Quan Priest, Raul Bautista and Real Dimez.

The update also mapped out the state beyond Vice City, with write-ups for Ambrosia, Grassrivers, the Leonida Keys, Mount Kalaga and Port Gellhorn. VGC counted more than 70 new screenshots. The gallery has kept growing since then: after Rockstar added 29 more images on August 31, 2026, it holds 99 screenshots in total, GTA Boom reports.

The trailer's first-day viewing figures have their own post. Platforms were unchanged by any of this. The game remains a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release. For how each piece of official news fits together, see the timeline; if you know these faces and places well, today's puzzles are a good test.
