Rockstar delays GTA VI again, to November 19, 2026

Rockstar moved GTA VI from May 26 to November 19, 2026, apologizing for the longer wait and saying the extra months were for polish.

Grand Theft Auto VI has slipped a second time. Rockstar Games said on November 6, 2025 that the game, then due on May 26, 2026, will instead launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026 (Rockstar Newswire). Take-Two Interactive listed the same date, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, in its second-quarter earnings release that day.

What Rockstar said

In its note to players, also posted on X, Rockstar said it was sorry "for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait," and explained that the extra months would let it finish the game "with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve," as PC Gamer quoted it. It also thanked players for their patience and said the studio was excited for them to experience Leonida and "a return to modern day Vice City," according to GamesRadar+.

What it means for players

The wait grew by six months. Counting from the original fall 2025 target, the game now arrives about a year later than first planned, VGC noted. The consoles stayed the same: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version still had not been announced, PC Gamer pointed out.

Take-Two's view

Chief executive Strauss Zelnick said in the earnings release that Take-Two was "both excited and confident" in Rockstar, and the company kept its forecast of "record levels of Net Bookings in Fiscal 2027." The new date sits inside that same fiscal year, a point Zelnick made himself in an interview with The Game Business, cited by PC Gamer and VGC. He told that outlet that "when we set a date, we really do believe in it," while adding that a game needing more polish gets more time.

He also told IGN he was "highly confident on the new date," GamesRadar+ reported. He had sounded just as sure before. In August 2025, he had put his conviction in the May date at "very, very high," as Kotaku recalled.

Not caused by the firings, says Schreier

The delay landed a week after Rockstar dismissed more than 30 staff. The IWGB union says the dismissals were union busting; Rockstar says the staff shared confidential information. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier wrote on ResetEra that the delay was "not due to the firings," and that the timing simply followed Take-Two's earnings report, GamesRadar+ reported. He added that the fallout could still affect the project further down the line.

The road here

Rockstar first aimed for fall 2025. In May 2025 it moved the game to May 26, 2026 with a message about needing more time to meet players' expectations, one PC Gamer described as very similar to this one.
