Take-Two asks a court to subpoena Discord and Microsoft over GTA VI leaks

Take-Two sought subpoenas to Discord, Microsoft, X and YouTube to find who leaked GTA VI gameplay, according to court filings reported by Kotaku.

Take-Two Interactive turned to a US federal court to identify whoever leaked GTA VI gameplay clips, Kotaku reported on August 21, 2026. Its petitions, filed August 20 in the Southern District of New York, sought records from Discord and Microsoft. Rockstar and Take-Two have not commented publicly on the filings.

What it means for players

The release date has not moved from November 19, 2026. Rockstar addressed the leaks in an August 26 statement. Leonidle does not describe or link leaked material.

What Take-Two asked for

The filings seek DMCA subpoenas, which, as TorrentFreak explained, let a copyright owner make an online service name an alleged infringer without suing first. Take-Two's counsel swore that the purpose was "to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers."

Kotaku said Discord was asked about accounts in several servers linked to the leaks. The Microsoft request covered account and device records, including records from Microsoft's own inquiry into the leak persona. Requests to X and YouTube followed a day later, TorrentFreak reported.

What happened next

By August 31, Take-Two had withdrawn the YouTube request after Judge John P. Cronan wanted more detail on how its targets were connected to the leaks, and had asked for a second Discord subpoena under seal, saying its investigation "is rapidly evolving and ongoing" (TorrentFreak, VGC). Take-Two dated its first Discord subpoena to August 21, but TorrentFreak noted the court's records did not show it.

In October the leaker, Cyberleek, threatened to release a full build over Take-Two's plans for physical copies, tying the threat to a cryptocurrency it promoted (VGC). On October 14 it said it would hold back (Kotaku). As of October 16, no report we have seen says anyone has been identified or charged.
