Rumor: Newsletter blamed GTA VI's delay on a broken save system; Kotaku dismissed it

A UK gossip newsletter claimed GTA VI was delayed because its save system broke after a layoff. Kotaku dismissed the rumor, and nothing official backs it.

Published on Leonidle , after the event.

Popbitch, a UK gossip newsletter, claimed on April 2, 2026 that GTA VI's most recent delay was caused by a broken save-and-load system. The item sits in a subscriber-only issue, and Kotaku's account of it mentions no source behind the claim. Kotaku described Popbitch as a "longtime UK rumormag." Rockstar and Take-Two have not commented.

The claim

As Kotaku summed it up, Popbitch said the push to November had nothing to do with the game's size or an engine overhaul. Its story was that the developer behind the save system had been let go, the feature stopped working, and early builds had never been planned around saving at all.

Kotaku's Zack Zwiezen relayed the story only to dismiss it, calling it "complete nonsense." He added: "From what I understand, GTA 6 has saving and loading." He did not say where that understanding came from, and no Rockstar statement was involved. Writing for GTA Boom, Ray Ampoloquio also doubted it, arguing that saving is a basic system built early and looked after by teams, not one person.

What it means for players

Nothing changed. GTA VI is still due on November 19, 2026, the date Rockstar set in November 2025, when it said the extra months were for polish (PC Gamer; see our post on that delay). The launch FAQ and the timeline keep track of the key dates.
