Take-Two narrows GTA VI release window to fall 2025

Take-Two's fiscal 2024 results narrowed GTA VI from calendar 2025 to fall 2025, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The window later slipped twice.

Published on Leonidle , after the event.

Grand Theft Auto VI is now due in fall 2025. Take-Two gave the narrower window on May 16 in its fiscal 2024 earnings release, tightening the calendar-2025 window that Rockstar had set earlier.

What Take-Two said

The change appears in a statement from Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two's chairman and CEO, about the company's outlook for the year ahead. He said the outlook "reflects a narrowing" of Rockstar's earlier window to "Fall of Calendar 2025," and added two lines about the game itself: "We are highly confident that Rockstar Games will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience," and expectations for its commercial impact "continue to increase."

The same release carries Take-Two's table of upcoming games. GTA VI is listed by Rockstar Games for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with "Fall of Calendar 2025" in the timing column. No PC version appears in the list.

What it means for players

This is still a window, not a release date, and nothing in the filing points to a specific month. Two things are clearer than before:

  • The first half of 2025 is out. Rockstar's earlier window covered all of 2025. Take-Two now says fall, so a spring launch is no longer on the table.
  • Only current consoles are listed. The table names PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and nothing else. Anyone hoping to play on PC has nothing official to go on yet; our PC release tracker follows that question.

The fiscal-year detail

Take-Two's fiscal 2025 runs to March 31, 2025. For that year the company forecast Net Bookings of $5.55 billion to $5.65 billion, and Zelnick said that outlook reflects the fall 2025 window. Put simply, Take-Two is not counting on GTA VI before April 2025. VGC read the forecast the same way. Zelnick also said he expects Net Bookings to grow year on year in fiscal 2025, 2026 and 2027.

Background

Rockstar's first trailer, released in December 2023, set a 2025 release, VGC notes. In March 2024, Kotaku reported, citing unnamed sources, that production was falling behind and that a slip into 2026 was possible (our post on that report). After an update, that same report put Rockstar's internal target at fall 2025, which is now the public window. VGC took the new window as a sign that a 2026 slip was not happening, at least for the time being.

What happened next

The fall 2025 window did not hold. On May 2, 2025, Rockstar announced that the game would arrive on May 26, 2026 (our report). According to Kotaku, Rockstar said it needed the extra time to reach the quality players expect. The date then moved once more, to November 19, 2026, which PCWorld reports Take-Two confirmed.

This post stays marked confirmed because fall 2025 was the official window when Take-Two published it. The timeline lists GTA VI's key dates in order, and the launch FAQ covers the current plan.
