The rumored October 26 GTA VI trailer never arrived

A 4chan claim had fans expecting a GTA VI trailer on October 26, 2023. None came; Rockstar later set its first trailer for early December.

Update history

  1. Update (): October 26 passed without a trailer. On November 8, Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser said the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto would come in early December, so the October date was wrong.

In mid-October 2023, fans on Reddit were circling October 26 as the day Rockstar would finally show its next Grand Theft Auto. The claim traced back to an anonymous 4chan user who said they had already watched a new trailer, Kotaku reported on October 17. Kotaku pointed to no track record for the poster, or for the account the date appears to have come from.

Where the date came from

Kotaku suggested the 4chan user may have borrowed the date from InfinityBeskk, an X account it described as a GTA leaker, which had said in September that the 26th would be significant. Kotaku was openly doubtful and called the excitement "a sweet dose of hopium." It asked Rockstar for comment and its article carries no reply. Leonidle does not repeat what the poster said the trailer would show.

What players actually knew

None of this was official. The last thing Rockstar had said, in 2022, was that work on the game was underway. Kotaku also pointed out that Take-Two's financial forecasts reportedly had the game arriving by 2025, though no date or trailer had been announced.

Until Rockstar or Take-Two said otherwise, October 26 was a fan guess passed around on forums, not a schedule.

What happened

The day passed with no trailer. On November 8, Rockstar said its first trailer would come in early December, as VGC reported, and Trailer 1 followed. For the official reveals in order, see the timeline.
