Rumor: photos reportedly show a German GTA VI PS5 retail box

Rumor: unverified photos of a German GTA VI PS5 box show a code-only case, and a retailer image hints at a poster inside. Rockstar has not commented.

A Reddit user who said they work in German retail posted photos of what they described as a boxed PS5 copy of GTA VI, five days before boxed copies are due in shops. Nothing is known about the user's reliability, the post and account have since been deleted, and MP1st says it could not verify the copy. Rockstar has not commented.

What the photos reportedly show

According to Kotaku and Push Square, the case carries a front label saying there is no disc inside, only a download code. Kotaku adds that the label says an internet connection is needed to redeem that code. That matches what Rockstar already announced: the boxed version is a code in a case, and it reaches retailers on November 12.

Separately, an Instagram image from the retailer MediaMarkt showed a double-sided poster: Lucia on one face, the box art on the reverse. MP1st says it is unclear whether Rockstar or MediaMarkt made it, and ComicBook.com notes the worker could not open the box to check.

What it means for players

Do not count on a poster in the box. Rockstar's own plan, as VGC reported, is a free printable poster and Leonida map on launch day, then a physical poster on the Rockstar Store for $0.99.

The box text also mentions online functionality and in-game purchases. TheGamer points out that such wording can cover anything needing a connection, not only an online mode, and Rockstar has announced no online mode for launch. See our launch FAQ and editions page.
