On Friday, December 1, 2023, Rockstar Games put a date on its first look at the next Grand Theft Auto: Trailer 1 would premiere on Tuesday, December 5, at 9am ET. The studio posted the news on X and on the Rockstar Newswire, under the heading "TRAILER 1. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5. 9AM ET."
When to watch
Elsewhere, that meant 2pm in the UK (GMT), 3pm in central Europe (CET) and 6am on the US West Coast (PT), as VGC and Pure Xbox set out. The announcement was about timing only. Pure Xbox pointed out that Rockstar still had not said whether the game would be called Grand Theft Auto VI.
How we got here
The date filled in a promise Rockstar made in November, when co-founder Sam Houser said the first trailer would come in early December, the month of the studio's 25th anniversary (VGC).
The post drew a lot of attention. Two days later, VGC reported that it had become the most-liked gaming post ever on X, with "over 1.8 million likes in 24hrs." The record it beat belonged to Rockstar's own November post about the trailer. Those counts are VGC's, not official figures.
In the end, the premiere did not wait for Tuesday. A copy leaked on Monday, December 4, and Rockstar put the official trailer out the same day, a day ahead of schedule, VGC reported. Our Trailer 1 report covers what it confirmed, and the timeline shows where this date sits among Rockstar's other announcements.
