Rob Nelson, head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North, told the Japanese magazine Famitsu that Grand Theft Auto VI will come out as planned on November 19, 2026. Famitsu recorded the interview on a visit to the studio in Edinburgh and published it early on August 28 in Japan, which was the afternoon of August 27 in New York, the day of the Extended Look.

What it means for players

Nothing has moved. This restates the date Rockstar chose when it pushed the game to November 19; it is not a new announcement. When Famitsu asked whether the game would really arrive in November, Nelson laughed and said it would come out properly. English write-ups translate his reply in slightly different ways, so we paraphrase it rather than quote it.

Nelson also said he is proud of a team that has spent years on the game. In his view GTA VI is complicated because so many of its systems depend on each other, and the developers are polishing it daily to get performance stable and smooth. Famitsu's page notes that its screens and footage come from the game in development.

Background

The remarks drew fresh attention in mid-October, when Game Rant wrote them up five weeks before launch as something Nelson had recently discussed. Insider Gaming had covered the interview on August 29, working from an automatic translation of the Japanese text. Famitsu's article also discusses how Jason and Lucia's partnership plays and a system that tracks what kind of criminal the player is.
