Rockstar premieres Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix
Rockstar premiered Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix, then posted the gameplay video on YouTube and the official site six hours later.

Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 27, 2026. Following the schedule set out on the Rockstar Newswire, it premiered on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET and reached Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET. Kotaku and Vice both put its running time at about 26 minutes.
What it means for players
This is a long stretch of gameplay from Rockstar itself, so what appears in it is official, unlike the details that came out of press previews. The launch plan did not change with it. When the video was announced, Game Informer had the game down for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on November 19, and Kotaku confirmed after the premiere that the date still held.
Two practical points. Netflix had the video to itself for six hours before it went up on YouTube. And Rockstar titled it An Extended Look rather than presenting it as a third numbered trailer.
What Rockstar showed
Kotaku, which says the footage was captured on a standard PS5, described the following in the official video:
- Combat: firefights with pistols, shotguns and rifles, fistfights, and a slow-motion ability used to line up headshots.
- Crime: robberies of shops and of a diner.
- Getting around: cars, scooters, airboats crossing swampland, and parachuting.
- Activities: racing, scuba diving and target shooting.
- Places: Vice City, including a section set at night.
This post sticks to what Rockstar put on screen and contains no story details.
What the previews reported
Alongside the video, Rockstar had hosted a select group of outlets and content creators at Rockstar North in July for a preview. Their coverage was published after the Netflix showing, according to Vice, whose roundup credits IGN, The New York Times, TGGonYT and TROISCOULEURS. The claims below come from those previews, not from Rockstar's own channels, and Rockstar has not confirmed them:
- Length: Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, reportedly said his latest playthrough took "approximately 80 hours to complete."
- Map size: Vice says Rockstar calls the map "very big" without giving a measurement. Comparisons with the worlds of Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V are estimates by previewers.
- Police: Vice's list says the wanted level tops out at six stars, one more than GTA V allowed.
- Performance: Vice notes that the frame-rate limits mentioned after the previews, covered in our post on the 30fps claims, have not been officially confirmed.
Treat these as reported until Rockstar says otherwise.
How it was announced
Rockstar first announced the Extended Look on August 6, three weeks before the premiere. Game Informer covered the news that day and pointed out that its length had not been revealed. The day before the premiere, Rockstar issued a statement about leaked clips that pointed fans to this video, and Netflix's figures later credited it with 31.1 million views in its first four days.
