Rumor: YouTuber relays claims of 30fps on consoles and no full first-person mode

A YouTuber claims Rockstar North's Rob Nelson told him GTA VI runs at 30fps on consoles for now, with no full first-person mode at launch. Unconfirmed.

YouTuber Davy Jones, one of the content creators who saw GTA VI at Rockstar's preview before the Extended Look, claims Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told him the console versions run at 30 frames per second for now and that the game will launch without a full first-person mode. The remarks are secondhand: Vice and GTA Boom passed them on from Jones, and neither published Nelson's own words.

What was claimed

  • Frame rate: by Jones's account, Nelson said the console builds were running at 30fps at this stage of development. Asked about a 60fps option, he reportedly answered that it was a question for the technical team, without ruling it out. He reportedly gave no details on resolution or ray tracing.
  • Camera: Vice relays that there will be no full first-person mode at launch, with work focused on third-person animation. A first-person view is reportedly still used when aiming some weapons.

What it means for players

None of this is official. Rockstar has said nothing on its own channels about frame rates, performance modes or camera options, and GTA Boom notes that the studio "has yet to confirm anything." The timing matters too: how a build runs during development does not settle how the game will run on November 19. Leonidle treats both points as a rumor until Rockstar addresses them. The launch FAQ covers what Rockstar has confirmed so far.

Background

GTA V also launched without its first-person option. According to Vice, that mode came in 2014 with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, a year after the original release.
