Rumor: Heaven 17 member says he rejected a GTA VI offer for Temptation

Heaven 17's Martyn Ware claimed Rockstar offered $7,500 per writer to use the song Temptation in GTA VI, and he refused. Rockstar has not commented.

Martyn Ware, a founding member of the British synth-pop band Heaven 17, claimed in posts on X on September 7 that Rockstar Games wanted Temptation, a Heaven 17 single from 1983, for GTA VI. He said the fee on the table was $7,500 and that he turned it down. Ware has no track record on GTA news; he is describing an email from his own music publishers. None of the outlets that covered his posts reported a reply from Rockstar.

The claim

Ware, whom Kotaku describes as one of the song's writers, said the approach came through his publishers on Rockstar's behalf. In his telling, the fee was a one-off payment that would replace any future royalties from the game, according to VGC. His refusal was blunt and public.

The next day he added a correction: the offer was "$7,500 each for three writers," or $22,500 in total, which he called "still utterly unacceptable," GamesRadar+ reported.

To make his point, Ware compared the fee with an $8.6 billion figure he attached to GTA 6. That game was not out yet; Kotaku notes the number belongs to GTA V, and Ware later said it was gross revenue rather than profit.

What it means for players

Very little. Rockstar has not commented, so the offer cannot be checked, and nothing official says whether Temptation will be in the game. This is a dispute over a licensing fee, not a soundtrack reveal. Rockstar began naming GTA VI's radio stations in October 2026.
