Sony and Rockstar bill GTA VI as playing best on PS5
A PlayStation Blog post from Sony and Rockstar said GTA VI plays best on PS5, pointing to DualSense features, 3D audio and fast SSD loading.

Sony and Rockstar Games announced a marketing partnership for Grand Theft Auto VI on June 24, 2026, built around the line that the game "plays best on PS5." The PlayStation Blog post was signed by Mary Yee, senior vice president of marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, and by Rockstar.
What the post promises
Sony's pitch rests on hardware features, not performance figures:
- DualSense controller: haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that respond to what you do, plus effects played through the controller's speaker.
- Tempest 3D AudioTech: precise positional sound across Leonida.
- The PS5's SSD: loading the post describes as "near-instant."
There is no word on graphics or performance modes, frame rates, PS5 Pro enhancements, or content only PlayStation players get. Push Square also flagged the missing mode details.
The partnership does not change where the game is coming out. Take-Two's pre-order press release, issued the same day, lists November 19, 2026, for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
A bumpy rollout
According to Push Square, the campaign's video and its posts on YouTube, X, Instagram and Bluesky were taken down later that day, while the blog post stayed up. They came back that evening with fresh artwork; the first version had shown an older GTA VI logo and the original launch model of the PS5.
Pre-orders opened the following day. The editions page covers what each version includes.
