Dan Houser, the Rockstar Games co-founder and longtime Grand Theft Auto writer, says GTA VI is not his work. He said so in an IGN interview at LA Comic Con 2025, according to GTA Boom, GamesRadar+ and TechRadar. This is his own account; Rockstar has not commented.

What he said

Houser told IGN the new game is "not going to be a story I wrote or a character set that I developed," PC Gamer reported. He still expects good things: "The game will be great, I'm sure," he added. Pointing to his long run on the series, he said he had written "the last 10 or 11" entries and that "the world's probably had enough GTA from me."

Why it matters

For players, it settles a question fans had been asking since he left the studio. According to PC Gamer, Houser had been a lead writer on each GTA release going back to GTA London 1969 in 1999. By his account, that makes GTA VI the first GTA since the late 1990s without his writing.

Background

Houser left Rockstar in 2020 and set up Absurd Ventures, PC Gamer and TechRadar note. In the same interview he picked Red Dead Redemption 2 as the best thing he worked on, TechRadar reported. For where GTA VI's launch stands today, see the launch FAQ.
